Add a touch of old-world charm to your collection with this Antique A.C. Williams Cast Iron Skyscraper Still Penny Coin Bank. Standing tall at 5 5/8 inches, this exquisite bank showcases intricate details, including the word BANK inscribed below the roofline and four towers adorning the top. While the original turn pin is missing and replaced with a nut and bolt, the historic charm of this piece remains intact. The silver finish, though partially faded, adds to its authentic character, hinting at its storied past. Whether you're a bank collector or an admirer of architectural wonders, this stunning skyscraper bank is a must-have addition to your collection.
A.C. Williams cast four of these skyscraper banks, this is the second largest style at 5 5/8 inches tall, 2 ⅝ inches wide, and 2 5/8 inches deep. Please see my other listings for more still banks.
Adam Clark Williams from Chagrin Falls, Ohio founded this company in 1886, but the production of toys actually started in 1893 after a fire leveled the factory, and they moved production to Ravenna, Ohio.
Williams was largely known for the design and production of cast iron banks. They closed their toy production in 1938.
"Still banks" are different from "mechanical banks." A still bank is simple, and you just add the money into a slot. A mechanical bank is "cocked" like the action of a gun, and a movement will occur to the coin. Actions could include magic, tossing a penny from a cannon and so forth.
