This exquisite blue transferware ironstone plate is a true treasure from the Petrus Regout Co. Maastricht, Made in Holland, dating back to 1880-Featuring two stunning architectural facades of old gothic buildings with intricate arches, this Delft pattern piece is a timeless beauty. The rim displays a charming repetition of the architectural design, adding to its allure. Emblazoned with the iconic sphinx mark of Petrus Regout Co., later known as Royal Sphinx, this plate measures approximately 7 ⅜” wide. Showcasing signs of its age such as minor scuffs, scratches, and noticeable crazing, this piece has one small chip on its surface (see pictures). A rare find for collectors of antique tableware, this plate encapsulates the rich history and craftsmanship of the late 19th century.
Manufacturer: Petrus Regout Co. (which later became Royal Sphinx)
Pattern: Delft
Mark on bottom: A sphinx, Petrus Regout Co. Maastricht, Delft, Made in Holland
This mark was used from 1880-1890
Approximately 7 ⅜” wide.
No cracks. Small chip in glaze on the front and crazing over the piece. Scuffs and scratches commiserate with age (it is 130-140 years old!) and there is a spot on the front where the glaze did not completely fill in.
In 1879 the image of the sphinx started to be used as a company mark and logo. Since 1899 the company was called De Sphinx. In 1958 the company merged with Société Ceramique and changed name to N.V. Sphinx-Céramique. Since 1960 thanks to a royal decision, a name was changed into Royal Sphinx. In 1994 the company was overtaken by Swedish firm Gustavsberg and the name changed to NV Koninklijke Sphinx Gustavsberg. - https://www.theoldstuff.com/en/porcelain-marks/123-porcelain-and-pottery-marks/81-petrus-regout-maastricht
