Adorable anthropomorphic tan elephant with raised trunk and a happy look on its face. It originally had two crystal eyes, but one is now missing. There also seems to be a couple of small chips or places the paint is worn off on the ears (see pictures).
Approximately 3.5” long,4” tall and 2.75” wide.
The remnant of the Wales China paper label is still on the elephant’s belly.
The finish looks ‘dirty’ to me, but I carefully cleaned it an nothing came off, so I am assume this was how the original paint job was done.
The New York Merchandise Co., Inc. was a company which imported and distributed ready-made items from various unnamed manufacturers located in Japan. They specialized on relatively cheap tableware, miniature tea sets and figures, re-selling them under their WALES CHINA brand. As far as I could find out, the company existed through the 1960s and closed around 1970. They never claimed the rights on first renewal of the marks, hence the registrations were later automatically removed from the USPTO registry. Most items in my shop are vintage and are not brand new and come from estate sales. The items may show minor age-related wear and/or minor flaws consistent with the date of manufacture (please be sure to check photos carefully as they are part of the description). I do my best to describe any imperfections. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!
