An amazing piece of Americana, the ducks on this push toy bob up and down when it rolls. The toy is in excellent condition, however the handle is missing. It is a wonderful tribute to the brave men that fought in WWI and WWII.
Label on metal frame: The Unbeaten Team, A Ruehle Product, Alhambra, Calif, Patent Pending
Stamped on the other side of the frame is : Patent number 142039

Duck 2: Joe’s Dad, G.I. Elmer, 1918

“The duck push toy originally came with a hang tag that said: "This Toy Symbolizes the Spirit of Both World Wars: The Fighting Men and the Defense Worker, Who Together Formed the Team That So Valiantly Kept Our Way of Life, and Is Dedicated to Their Honor. G.I. Elmer 1918, G.I. Joe 1945, Made By Vets." It was designed by Elmer C. Ruehle (1894-1983), who applied for a patent for the toy in December 1944. The patent was granted in August 1945. The toys were evidently made by veterans in the late 1940s. The smaller duck named "Joe" represents a World War II soldier. The father duck, "Elmer," represents a World War I soldier who worked in a defense factory during World War II. Ruehle was a California pistachio farmer who held patents for other inventions, including a belt sander, ditch-digging auger, and a new variety of pistachio tree.”
