“This is one of the first product's from the Pond's people. The 1846 on the bottom of the bottle is not the year of manufacture, but rather the year the T. T. Pond Co. was formed. In 1846. Mr. Pond extracted a healing tea from witch hazel, with which he discovered he could heal small cuts and other ailments. Soon after, the product would be known as "Pond's Extract".” (https://www.flickr.com/photos/puddleboy/4417663975)
