This antique cup has quite a bit of character. There is an engraved leaf design on one side and a very ornate handle. The cup is no longer round and it must have taken quite a bit of pressure to cause it to bend. There is also the panacea often seen with older items (see pictures). The mark at the bottom says ‘Superior Silver Plate Co. Quadruple, 002.’ Approximately 2 ⅛” tall and 3.75” wide with handle.
This cup came from the estate of someone that used to own an antique store.
Quadruple silver plate hollowware was some of the highest quality made during the later part of the 19th century.
“Wilcox Silver Plate Co was one of the original companies that became part of International Silver Company in 1898. Immediately afterwards (1899) Middletown Silver Plate was closed and the production transferred to Wilcox factory. Superior Silver Co was a Middleton trademark manufactured by Wilcox. The factory was closed in 1941 because of metal shortage in WWII.” (https://www.silvercollection.it/USASILWILCOX.html)
