This is a beautiful Nippon (Japanese) hand painted porcelain bowl with a ruffled/scalloped edge. It is approximately 9.5” wide and 2.5” tall. Parts of the flower heads, stems, and gold dots around the inner and outer rim are created using the moriage technique. There are no chips or cracks.
The mark is very faded, but when compared other pictures of the Nippon mark (such as that found on https://www.drloriv.com/antique-tips/nippon/), I believe the mark on the bottom of this piece is a leaf with ‘Hand Painted’ to the right. (The Nippon mark was made in response to the McKinley Tariff Act of 1891. In 1921, customs officials decided that pieces must be marked with Japan and not Nippon, so this piece was made sometime between 1891 and 1921.)
Most items in my shop are vintage and are not brand new and come from estate sales. The items may show minor age-related wear and/or minor flaws consistent with the date of manufacture (please be sure to check photos carefully as they are part of the description). I do my best to describe any imperfections. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!
